Connect Dropbox or Google Drive for automatic project folders
Every new project gets its own folder in your Dropbox or Google Drive — filed per client, dated, with your subfolders — linked from the project and renamed when the project is.

Connect your workspace's Dropbox or Google Drive once, and every new project gets its own folder there — filed under its client, dated, with the subfolders your team always needs. The folder is linked from the project, so nobody has to make it or hunt for it, and it is renamed when the project is.
It is a workspace-wide connection, so a manager or admin sets it up in Settings → Integrations, on the Cloud storage card.
Connect it
- Open Settings → Integrations and find the Cloud storage card.
- Click Connect Dropbox or Connect Google Drive.
- Sign in and allow access. You are brought back to Contentmaker, and the card shows the account you connected.
A workspace uses one storage account at a time. To switch from Dropbox to Google Drive (or the other way round), disconnect first with the bin icon on the card, then connect the other one.
Both personal and business accounts work: a private Dropbox, a Dropbox team (including team spaces), a personal Google account or Google Workspace.
What happens when you create a project
As soon as a project is created, a folder is made for it and linked to the project's Cloud link button in the project header. This works however the project is created — from the dashboard, the assistant or a recurring project.
Out of the box, folders look like this:
- Contentmaker
- Atlas Brewing — one folder per client
- 2026.10.05 - Spring Launch — one folder per project, starting with the day it was created
- 01 Footage
- 02 Audio
- 03 Graphics
- 04 Project files
- 05 Exports
- 2026.10.05 - Spring Launch — one folder per project, starting with the day it was created
- Atlas Brewing — one folder per client
Projects without a client go straight into the main folder.
Rename a project, and its folder follows
Change a project's name and its folder is renamed to match. The date at the start stays the same — it is the day the project started, which keeps a client's folders in order.
If you replace the project's link with a different folder, we stop renaming the one we made: it is no longer the project's folder.
Make it fit how you work
Everything works without changing a thing, but every part can be changed on the Cloud storage card once you are connected:
- Give every new project a folder — switch it off if you would rather make folders yourself. Turning it off never removes or changes folders that already exist.
- Where project folders go — click Choose folder to pick where new project folders are made. Use default goes back to the standard Contentmaker folder.
- Folder layout — A folder per client, projects inside (the default), or All projects side by side.
- Start folder names with the date — on by default:
2026.10.05 - Spring Launch. Switch it off for justSpring Launch. - Folders inside every project — one folder name per line. Edit the list to match your own structure, or leave it empty for an empty project folder.
The line at the bottom of the card shows exactly what a new project's folder will be called with your settings.
Dropbox
- By default, project folders go in a Contentmaker folder at the top of your Dropbox. On a Dropbox team with a team space, it is made inside your own member folder instead, because members usually cannot create folders at the top of the team space.
- Choose folder lets you browse your Dropbox and pick any folder you can add to — a team folder works too.
- The project's link is a Dropbox shared link, using your account's own sharing settings. On a personal Dropbox that is usually anyone with the link can view; on a team account your team's sharing policy decides who can open it.
Google Drive
- By default, project folders go in a Contentmaker folder in your My Drive.
- Choose folder opens Google's own folder picker, where you can choose any folder — including one in a Shared Drive.
- Contentmaker only ever sees the folders it makes and the folder you choose. It cannot see or open anything else in your Drive. Because of that, a client folder you made by hand is not reused: we make our own next to it.
- Who can open a project folder follows your Drive's normal sharing — for a folder in a Shared Drive, everyone with access to that Shared Drive.
A project that has no folder yet
For a project created before you connected, or while automatic folders were switched off, click the project's Cloud link button and choose Create project folder. You can also paste a link to an existing folder with Add URL manually.
Disconnecting
Click the bin icon on the card. Folders already made stay where they are and stay linked to their projects; new projects simply won't get one.
If the card says Reconnect needed, your Dropbox or Google account stopped accepting the connection — for example because access was removed in that account. New projects get no folder until you click Reconnect.
Working with Contentmaker's editing service?
Projects you share with Contentmaker keep getting their folder in Contentmaker's Dropbox, where our editors work. Projects you keep to yourself go into your own connected storage.
